Prehabiliation Optimization
Background
Prehabilitation aims to optimize patient factors before surgery to improve postoperative outcomes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of a comprehensive colorectal prehabilitation program across a statewide surgical quality improvement collaborative (QIC).
About the Project
ISQIC has implemented a multifaceted prehabilitation program for patients undergoing elective colorectal resections in a statewide Illinois QIC. The objective of this project was to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of a comprehensive prehabilitation program across a statewide surgical QIC. Hospitals selected participation in individual nutrition, physical functioning, cognitive preparedness, and smoking cessation modules; each of which contained 1-7 elements.
Toolkits and peer-mentorship were facilitated implementation strategies. Patient level adherence and postoperative outcomes were prospectively compared between preimplementation and postimplementation phases. Click the links below to view toolkits.
